Yep, football has some work to do, no doubt. But that's a complete money hire, getting Bohl to Wyoming. Few thought that was possible. Sure, 0-5 isn't fun for fans. But the 2015 recruiting class was solid, and the 2016 class is shaping up well. They're getting the guys they need to compete in the MW, and I don't think they're as far off as the 0-5 record indicates. Time will tell, though. Obviously at the FBS level, you get less time to produce a winning product than at the FCS level.
Those mistakes also killed against Eastern Michigan, too, FWIW. I haven't seen a major emphasis, but these days we only get to see about 20 minutes of practice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. At this point, I'm the only consistent media member there. Most of that is stretching and drill work. But I think they've been making that an emphasis later in practice, from what I've heard at least.
Herndon tweaked his ankle on Tuesday and was in a boot yesterday, by the way. But he should be back and ready to go today. Nothing serious.
He's really worked to become a consistent perimeter threat. UW hasn't been able to spread the defense a ton in the past, and so that'd be a nice addition for them.
John Denega, aka Mark Jones, your love for Trey Washington is unmatched. I'll give you that. You'll enjoy my story on him in our preview section.
As for Lieberman, that remains to be seen right now, but he'll certainly have some opportunities. Made some good strides during the summer.
Right now, Wyoming's main needs are at defensive end. I don't know of anyone in particular there, but that's got to be the priority right now, especially with the attrition there this year.
By the way, they've got five verbals since the start of the season. At this rate, they'll have seven more by Nov. 28. Crazy.
jamesdwyo, that's the million dollar question.
Really, it could be anyone right now. I think SDSU has a chance to still win the division just because it's such a mess. But SJSU, led by Tyler Ervin, has played fairly well. And what the heck, UNLV beat Nevada on the road. So yeah, I'll let you decide. It's anyone's division at this point.
Thanks, James! Don't forget to join my live video chat via Periscope on Saturday at about 6:45 p.m.
Terry, I need to check on that this week. Just finished a big, big football feature that'll run be published tomorrow. Between the regular football content, additional basketball content and writing about eight big stories, a column and capsules for each of UW's opponents for the preview section, the season tickets have slipped my mind. Appreciate the reminder.
I've got about five minutes left here. Any last questions?
I will say, however, UW should surpass its season ticket total from last season. Last I had heard, the numbers were well on pace to do that.
Definitely. From a selfish standpoint, I'd love to see big-time season ticket numbers. It's way more fun to cover games in a loud, packed environment.
All right, folks, I think we'll wrap this one up. I've got to get back to work. Thanks for joining today. If you've got any leftover questions, save them for my video live chat on Saturday via Periscope. I'll start that about 90 minutes before game time.
If you read anything of mine this week (or even month), please make it my feature that'll be published tomorrow. Put a ton of work into it and I think you'll enjoy it.
Thanks again, and as always, keep reading the Casper Star-Tribune.
