What's up, everybody? Happy Tuesday to one and all. Who wants to start us off?
Good afternoon, Pokes! Sure will. It'll be an interesting game. UW beat down USU in the first match up, but without Nance I expect the Aggies to pound it into Jarred Shaw all game long. We'll see how it goes.
A couple things. The team needs to find a way to sustain itself for 40 minutes. Being undermanned the last few games, Wyoming has faded in the second half. They also need to defend in the paint and rebound at least somewhat.
Offensively, UW needs to shoot well from deep. Without much interior presence, the Cowboys haven't shot well the last few games. If Grabau gets hot, that'll take a lot of pressure off everybody else.
That's a tough question. I'm pretty confident it won't be this season. Considering how thin they are already, the fact that Haldorson still isn't playing shows how little confidence Shyatt has in him. He can definitely shoot it, but I think he has to get a lot stronger to be able to guard inside.
And in Shyatt's system, if you can't defend your position you aren't going to play.
With him, I feel like it's a pretty clear confidence issue. He's a freshman who's missed a bunch of shots, and it feels like his confidence is gone right now. He'll keep getting minutes, but he has to do positive things on the defensive end and take care of the ball to start to turn things around.
As far as the incoming class, I think it's the best for Shyatt so far. To immediately address needs, a 6-10 center named Jonathan Barnes is coming in. He's one of the best players in CO. Don't know if he'll be able to help right away, but they need that interior toughness.
Definitely. He came in as someone who could shoot, but I don't think he's progressed in the other areas like they hoped. We'll see if he's still around next season.
No, the program won't release any of that so it'd have to come from the players. And they won't talk in season. But if it's true Vernon's transferring, that's one. We'll see if Haldorson is here. Not sure who else would want to leave.
To be clear, Haldorson hasn't said anything about being unhappy. I'm just speculating based on his lack of playing time.
Not off the top of my head, though I know he played all 40 mins and scored 4 points. But who would you suggest they go to? It's not only offensively. He's being forced to guard a much larger forward every game.
It's not like Sellers hasn't gotten an opportunity, either. He flat out hasn't been effective. They need Granberry to play. He also lends leadership, being one of two seniors.
I agree. Everyone I've talked to has really bought in. It won't be easy to transfer to a new offense/defense, but the guys have a good attitude right now.
How safe is Shyatt? He's safe. Just look at where the program was before him, as well as some of the wins they've gotten the season. Yes, this will probably be a "collapse." But it's hard not to when you lose what Wyoming has lost.
And I know that comes down to depth, but Shyatt has only had a few recruiting classes so far. The jury is out on him.
I like to compare him to Christensen. DC was fired because after five years, the team has had no depth. Shyatt isn't there yet, and his team has had much more significant wins.
I think it just comes down to who you have confidence in to help your team. Shyatt has seen all these guys in practice and determined who he thinks can help. Maybe he should give Haldorson a shot, but I question his ability to defend anybody. Same with Tyser.
We likely won't hear for a while because he can't transfer until he graduates in May. As of now, he's still at NC State. I've heard the rumors, but we're going to have to wait and see.
In UW's release yesterday he was listed as "limited." I don't expect to see too much from him, just because it's better to be cautious and everyone knows what they're going to get from Rufran. He'll be full go for fall camp.
Thank you, Chey. You've pretty much made my point. I agree on all points.
A problem with DC's staff is that they struggled to develop underrecruited guys, specifically on the defensive side. Shyatt has done the opposite, getting a lot out of a little. Look at Nance. He was barely recruited and has made huge strides each year.
Yes, it is. I was a little surprised as well. Hopefully his family has done their homework and made the right choice.
He won't travel with the team to Utah, obviously.
